Just for the record, i enjoy fishing the wal mart special rods.

The depth I am fishing is not really conducive to a spinnerbait bite. However slow rolling a 1oz spinnerbait in 20ft of water would be productive if you found fish hammering shad at that depth. The jiggiging spoon is a vertical presentation up to 60ft of water while you are fishing a certain peice of structure, such as a flat, hump, channel swing or deep point.

  7. jperrego says:

There isn’t a better lure when the fish are stacked deep feeding on shad. A spinnerbait in 30+ feet of water would not be productive, let alone easy to fish.

I am really into the the wholw bass fishing scene but I haven’t ever used a spoon. Does anybody here think they are better than a spinnerbait. I’m not trying to say they don’t work but the whole design looks flawed to me.

Slim, since I live in Missouri now. I hung out there on the docks until I forced someone to take me out fishing with them on the boat. Made a good partner, than I bought my own boat.

Whats the chances I could get out there with ya’ll? Fishing from the shores at blora and stillhouse just isnt doing the trick for me.

  11. jperrego says:

I did too, it was foul hooked and he had a flimsy rod, that is why it appeared to give him such a hard time. Those fish get so stacked on deep points when the shad are running deep, it is not uncommon to foul hook a few a day, every once in a while the treble hook on the spoon would be filled with shad as well, the one i missed was probably in the 8-10lb range, you can see the head shake on the rod just before it got unbuttoned.

Do you think Stillhouse will have good-sized bass in the summer?
If so, which lure do you think would be best?

  15. jperrego says:

I am still catching fish, i was just spoiled with that particluar rig on that particular lake during the winter. Catching giants on a daily basis. It is hard to believe that little spoon will catch the tens, but it does. I will post a video soon for lake of the ozarks, using the yellow magic these fish are just exploding on the surface for it.

stillhouse hollow, in central texas. It is a little known jewel, it is not uncommon for a 30lb bag to win tourneys there.

  17. 123babalou says:

what lake was this is in?

  18. IBG67 says:

Are you still catching fish on other lures or live bait, or is it finding the fish thats giving you trouble?

  19. IBG67 says:

Well ive got a suggestion. Go shallower. I had the same problem when i switched lakes. I fished Smith mountain in ca and now cherokee in Tennessee. If its largemouth your after try about 20-25 feet, and your big hybrids and stripers will almost always be in about the same depth, but more roamin the flats directly under baitfish. If you go alittle shallower, during summer, i guarantee you will catch more fish. Also try a different spoon. A white with shiny tape is all i ever use. Hope i help.

35-40feet, i am trying to find a jigging spoon bite at lake of the ozarks in missouri now since I live there, no such luck yet. The conditions are right, just haven’t put it together yet

  21. IBG67 says:

how deep were you by the way?

  22. IBG67 says:

    fuck yes. i love spoonin.

  23. jperrego says:

Bomeber 1 oz Slab Spoon in white. It is the $1.97 Wal Mart special. Remove the treble and replace with larger feathered treble and trim to bottom of hooks. This little fellow has landed some giants, the day before this video in the same spot I had two 8′s and one pushing 10. That day would have been a 40lb 5 fish day. Of course when I video the next day, I miss the only giant. We caught about 30 fish this day though, the biggest about 6, 6 1/2.

  24. 1bass1man1 says:

    what spoon are you using?

  25. jperrego says:

I would, but I will be moving to Missouri around the 24th of Sept, so I will miss it by a couple of days. I will be fishing belton a couple of days here pretty soon and will post some feedback in case you are fishing the FFF tourney.
