Dude, you just have to keep trying. Eventually you will get it. I’m 43 and I had been coarse fishing since age 10. In 2006 I decided to try fly fishing. It took me three very expensive trips to Syon Park in London before I landed my first trout and that was with a casting technique that was awful to say the least. It took me about six months and another 4 sessions before I developed a competant cast. Now I can get to the fish and reach the bag limit with no real problems. Don’t give up!

Remember, with fly casting you’re not actually casting the line you’re whipping it out there. Think of the rod and line as a whip not a rod and reel. I wish someone had told me that when I started out. I would have spent less time catching my hat and more time catching fish! And remember to pull the loose line between the first eye and the reel down to your hip as you flick the rod back to build up tension and speed in the line. And always, always wear eye protection!

I started at Syon.
Its a great fishery.
But then i moved South, but i cant complain, because weve got some fantastic fishing around here.
Hopefully il be back at Syon sometime soon.

Syon Park is a great fishery and the only fishery I’ve been to where you can catch trout that actually taste good. I’ve been to a few other fisheries that I shan’t name and shame here, that have awful tasting trout.

Does anyone know where I could find some FREE chalk stream or river fly fishing in the Berks’ Bucks areas?
