I was using a 9′ eiight weight rod in this video. Since that time I have purchased a 9.5′ seven weight that I think I can cast even further. I would not recommend a short rod for fly casting in a kayak. Although, you are actually no worse off than standing in water up to your **** in waders.
I fly fish for bass from a kayak on lakes too. Do you like longer or shorter rods or do you just stay at 9ft?
@drummerjunk
My kayak is a Liquid Logic Manta Ray 14. The model is now made and sold by Native Watercraft.
i do this too. not the filming part tho. and i can never find water calm enough like you have. what kayak?
That was a great video! And like other people I thought I was just weird by flyfishing for bass haha. Can’t wait for summer!

excellent video
very well done, surface strikes are best – made even better on a fly rod!
I have been fly fishing for LB for a couple years and love it. I also enjoy Blue Gill with a fly rod. Pound for pound they put up a better fight than the L bass. Thanks for sharing. ‘tight lines”
Rob
