Must be some special circumstances here – small fish, little or no current, water margin easily accessible. With big fish and heavy currents you’d have to play them almost to death before you’d be able to reach down and unhook them by hand. I agree there’s a problem with nets, even knotless mesh can remove a lot of the fish’s protective slime. Maybe we should all quit fishing, for the sake of the fish….

On some CR waters here in the UK you are not allowed to use nets, you play the fish, raise its head and release it by hand without removing it from the water, for the sake of the fish….
Is he trying to land or torture the poor fish?
In America we have ‘nets’. You should look into it.
