Fly fishing smallmouth bass on the St. Louis River near Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. June, 2009. Testing out the new Redington Predator Fly Rod. We were just out messing around with my new Sony HD video cam and learning to use Sony’s Vegas video editing software. www.arrowheadflyangler.com
@43405555 At the end of the thick colored fly line you would tie on a piece of mono line (same clear line used in conventional fishing spinning reels) from 3′ to 10′ long. Then attach your fly to that. In fly fishing this section is called the “leader” as others referenced in other posts. Good question!
ok, this is what i dont get, how does that thick ass line can fish on a popper? how does that fit the iron u shape on the popper? is it specially made for fly fishing lines? and wouldnt the bass be afraid also? the line is like, WHOA, its THICK.. wouldnt they had seen it?
@ViolistXK 3-4 feet on the subsurface flies, but also was using intermediate clear sink tip line (the first 7′ of fly line is clear and sinks, i believe it’s called streamer tip by RIO). For top water I had a 7′ leader with floating line, 1 to turn the big popper over and 2 to get the fly to turn over quicker for shooting under the trees. Tight lines!
How long was your leader that you were using?
@halo5549 i personally think fly fishing is more fun cause you have more”feel” if you know what i mean. fly fishing is more like an art.. at least thats how i think about it
@halo5549 – Personally, most of my fishing is done with the fly rod. Not that it’s any better or worse then spin fishing. It’s just that I enjoy it more then other types of fishing. Fly fishing really comes down to the individual person, some will think it’s more fun then other forms of fishing and some people won’t like it at all. Get out and try it and just have fun with it while you learn.
i”ve been fishing science i was 3, and i’ve never had time to learn a fly fishing like i have learned casting like normal, would you say fly fishing is funer then like, a open bell, or pushbuton?
@WINNIETHEGUINEAPIG I use size 8′s mainly for trout and size 4 for bass. Good all around sizes. Can’t go wrong with a Black BH Wooly ******!
Hey, I’m new to fly fishing and I’m trying to order some wooly buggers. I have a 9 FT 7 weight rod and reel outfit and I was wondering what size hooks I need. I want a size that i can use both on Trout and Largemouth Bass.. Thanks in advance.
their is a house in new Orleans. . .
Don’t ever get involved in a link swap deal with these arseholes, they are dishonest as hell.
awesome video, man.
@howell55812 Yeah your right. I’m trying to get a trophy regulation in place for the St. Louis River. I put a lot of time on the river, but only hit the community areas, these let me know how others areas are fishing. There are lots spawning areas that I have never seen anyone fishing, some where there are a steady stream of boats going right by, funny to see. The river has so many hidden features, that’s why I love fishing it.
Fished that stretch many times. I cant believe how many people fish smallmouth on the river now. Back in the day you rarely saw anybody fishing for bass. Now many of those spawning areas get hit over and over everyday.
How many fish are you going to miss Set the hook you freaking me out man!!!! LOL NEVER pull a fish into your boat with your fly rod Ive seen dozens of tips break like that.
oh btw i subscribed
thats fantastic good fishing. I agree with lolrobin the second smallie was an absolute tank great fishing keep it up
Thats awesome, man. Well done. Smallies are my favorite species on the fly. It’s a shame you didn’t hook-up with those first few. It seemed like you did everything right as far as the hook set goes….
Where on the river were you guys approximately?
8wt Redington Predator. Makes a great topwater rod.
That second fish was a true lunker! What rod weight where you using on that Predator?
Awesome!!! Just got my first smallie in Hawaii out of all places. Smallmouths are a very feisty bunch to say the least. I can only imagine the fight with those pigs. Can’t wait to catch smallies as big as those. Thanks for sharing!
ottimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
close is good enough for me nice fish
Really close tenneseesportsman — White strip leech, close enough to wooly ****** to me and the other was a big foam bodied bass popper.
