THANK YOU so much- this clip is priceless!
Greg was so young and handsome, and that English accent…divine.
Love this version, and the fishing scene, Priceless!!!
These scenes I already have on a DVD entitled “Return of the Manticore”. I like this presentation much better, though. For one thing, the narrator doesn’t try to become part of the show. In the version I have, the guy must have been some wannabe member of the Royal Shakespeare Company; he was annoying beyond belief.
One wonders why these bands from the 70s even get back together. All they reveal is that the years have not been kind to them, making them mere shadows of their once glorious selves. There’s a lessons for the fans who are trying to recapture their youth: you cannot go back; just forget that it ever happened.
@Ayinger
Same here. Saw them at Great Woods in Massachusetts around that year…. it was all new material and just terrible sounding stuff…even Carl’s drums sounded terrible. I felt like I’d just really missed out on seeing a band that had its peak in the 70′s.
Great live version! Thanks for posting
You have good taste! I regret never getting to see ELP live. They were my next favorite prog rock band of the 70′s behind the Moody Blues! I saw the Moodies in the early 80′s and got to meet them after the concert, it was awesome!
You’re right. I saw ELP in 1993 and I was floored with how thin and strained his previously rich voice had become. I didn’t realize he was a smoker. In their prime, Lake and Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues had the best choir boy voices I can think of. Hayward’s has held up much better, though.
Great edit of Greg Lake segments from the BBC documentary. What a talent. I find it sad how he talks about singing being the ‘greatest gift’, and then years later his voice is shot from years of smoking.
